Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Loot Boxes, Gambling, and Addictive Behavior

In the wake of the release of Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the usual suspects, including the impotent GamerGate movement, have been calling for government control of loot boxes in video games on the premises that they're a form of gambling and that you and I are incompetent to freely make our own choices.

Here I discuss how hedonists, determinists, and altruists have synergized to justify these calls for government control, how control will exacerbate rather than ameliorate human suffering, and how skepticism has caused the problem of addictive behavior but Objectivism and capitalism can solve it.
